'Bachelor' Winner's Friends Get Personal

Gardinier's Friends Meet With 10News

POSTED: 4:41 p.m. PST November 21, 2003

Bob Guiney, the man from ABC's "The Bachelor," narrowed a field of 25 woman and during the season finale chose San Diego-native Estella Gardinier.

While the two make publicity rounds, Gardinier's friends celebrate her new romance. They watched the show faithfully every week.

Kristi Floquet, Gardinier's friend, said, "(Estella) falls hard when she falls for someone. She liked Bob on 'The Bachelorette,' back when he was 'bigger Bob.'"

Although Gardinier now lives in Beverly Hills, her hometown is San Diego. It is where you will find her closest friends, 10News reported.

"You know, what you don't see is what a funny person Estella is. She's always cracking jokes. She's one of the funniest girls in our group," Floquet said.

When Gardinier was in town to watch "The Bachelor" with her friends, 10News was able to go one-on-one with her.

"They make fun of me for all my facial expressions at all the rose ceremonies which are very intense and I look like I'm about to pass out. That's what they make fun of me about," Gardinier said.

As for a little dirt on Gardinier, her friends said she truly is a down-to-earth gal. But her boss, Miles Hubers, had a few complaints.

"It was one week, then two, then five and then she disappeared," Hubers said.

Like Guiney, Gardinier is a mortgage broker.

"She left a lot of clients stranded. We're still suffering from the aftermath," Hubers said.

So, can you really find true love on television? Is it real or is it a Hollywood fantasy?

When Gardinier's friends saw that the other "Bachelor" contestant, Kelly Jo, got out of the limo before Gardinier, they already knew the outcome of the show.

Gardinier had won Guiney's heart and a "bling-bling" promise ring.

Domenica Schultz, another one of Gardinier's friends, said, "I know she really wants true love. When I talk to her she's sincere and really passionate."

"I get scared of the fact that it possibly may not work out because Hollywood has so much to do with it. But, whatever the outcome, I'll back her," said Gabriella Kent, another of Gardinier's friends.

"The Bachelor" finished taping about three months ago. Gardinier's friends said they really had no idea until they saw Guiney choose Gardinier.

Both Gardinier and Guiney signed strict agreements not to reveal the show's outcome to anyone.
