All three San Diegans were picked for an extreme makeover and 10News followed their life-changing journey from the beginning.

Thousands applied for the makeover provided by dentists Jeffrey Gray and Ken Williams and plastic surgeon Scott Sessions.

The doctors said that they spent weeks looking for perfect candidates.

"Every 10 minutes we got an entry," Sessions said.

When Veronica, Carmen, and Patti found out that they had won an extreme makeover, they were overwhelmed with joy.

"You've given me more than anybody -- even my parents -- could give me," Carmen said.

"I can't tell you what a difference it's going to make in my life. I'm just thrilled," Veronica said.

"I'm still in shock. I can't believe it," Patty said.

Perfect Extreme Makeover Candidates

Veronica Granillo

Veronica lost more than 100 pounds in the past year and wanted to get rid of the massive extra skin under her arms. She was also missing some teeth and needed straightening on other teeth.

Veronica (pictured, right) said she hated her smile.

Carmen Meyer

"I am so tired of putting my hand over my face," she said.

Carmen (pictured, left) hated looking at herself in the mirror.

"I've just been called so many names and I would just like to be able to look into the mirror and not remember and not think about all the bad things," Carmen said.

Patti Navarrete

Carmen wanted a new, sculpted nose, a chin implant, breast implants and her ears to be reshaped.

Patty (pictured, right) gained and lost a lot of weight after the birth of her two sons. She hoped for a tummy tuck and a new smile.

Her teeth were crooked, rotated and stained.

"I'm not a big smiler because I've always tried to hid them," she said.

Transformation Begins

First, all three women received cosmetic dentistry. Then, it was on to the operating table.

Sessions carefully crafted a new nose for Carmen and her ears were pinned back. She had a chin implant and breasts implants.

Veronica spent several hours on the operating table while Sessions removed the excess skin from her arms.

Sessions gave Patti liposuction and a tummy tuck.

Five weeks later, the women were fully healed and ready for a new wardrobe.

Stylists Elaine Martinez and Sharon Anderson offered to give Veronica, Carmen, and Patty a whole new look with a haircut, color and makeup.

"I feel sassy and sexy. I love it," Carmen said.

"Who would have ever thought i would be wearing an outfit like this," Patty exclaimed.

"I never dreamed I could wear anything even similar to this," Veronica said.

The Big Debut

Veronica revealed her new self to her family.

"She looks beautiful. She looks great," her husband said.

"She's gorgeous. She's so beautiful," her daughter remarked.

Patti said her friends couldn't believe her transformation. Patti's husband is a Marine and is currently in Iraq.

"I know he's going to be shocked whenever he gets back from Iraq," Patti said.

Carmen's new sculpted face and figure gave her an entirely new look.

"I always knew I was a pretty person on the inside and now I'm beautiful on the outside," Carmen said.

The doctors estimated that Veronica, Carmen, and Patti received more than $150,000 worth of cosmetic dentistry and surgery.
