Saturday Known For Luckiest Day To Tie The Knot

Couples from around San Diego will tie the knot Saturday on what is said to be the luckiest day of the year -- 7-7-07.

"The date 7-7-07 is a very popular date because the numbers are supposed to be lucky and many celebrities are getting married on this date," said Gregory Smith, San Diego County assessor/recorder/clerk.

"We've seen an increase in the number of calls we've received about getting married on that day," Smith said.

David's Bridal, the largest U.S. retailer of wedding gowns, estimates that 65,000-70,000 weddings will take place across the country Saturday, double the number normally held.

Weddings will be held at the clerk's Kearny Mesa office at 9225 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No blood tests or appointments are required and the cost is $50 for a marriage license and another $50 for the ceremony. The entire process should take about 30 minutes.
