SAN DIEGO -- A man wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his brother, former NBA player Bison Dele, was under arrest at a Chula Vista hospital, with FBI agents hoping he will emerge from a coma.
FBI officials said 35-year-old Miles Weston Dabord (pictured, left) is wanted as a murder suspect in Tahiti and for fraud charges in Phoenix.
Dabord reportedly was sailing in the South Pacific aboard a 55-foot catamaran headed for Hawaii, along with his brother (pictured, right), Dele's girlfriend, Serena Karlan, and boat captain Bertrand Saldo.
Dele, Karlan and Saldo were last seen in early July. But Dabord subsequently was seen with the boat in Tahiti.
"We are very glad we have him, but we are still anxious to talk to him," Josefina Regula, a special agent in the FBI's San Diego office, told the Los Angeles Times in a reference to Dabord.
On Sunday morning, Dabord was found unconscious, possibly from a drug overdose, and brought across the border from Tijuana to a Chula Vista hospital, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
According to the newspaper, a fingerprint technician was able to identify Dabord Thursday after finding a computer match in Dabord's name, and a federal arrest warrant for him.
Dabord was booked Thursday into the San Diego County Jail "in absentia."
If Dabord recovers, he will be extradited to Phoenix and questioned by the FBI.
Police in Phoenix said that Dabord was detained on Sept. 5 for allegedly trying to buy $152,000 in gold bullion in his brother's name and using his brother's passport.
After being detained in Phoenix, Dabord posted bail and disappeared, prompting the issuance of an FBI federal fugitive warrant.
