Man Investigated In Crowe Murder To Be Paroled
Tuite Never Named Suspect
A man investigated in the unsolved murder of a 12-year-old Escondido girl is being released from prison Saturday, 10News reports.
Police have never named Richard Tuite (pictured, left) a suspect in the Stephanie Crowe case, but the Crowe family is convinced he's responsible.
Tuite was seen in the neighborhood the night Crowe was killed.
Crowe (pictured, right) was found stabbed to death in her bedroom in 1998. Escondido police rejected Tuite as a suspect after they decided that he was too mentally unstable to have committed the crime.
Authorities then arrested the girl's teenage brother and two friends.
Charges against the boys were dismissed after a private crime lab, hired by defense attorneys, found Crowe's blood on a sweatshirt belonging to Tuite, authorities said.
Tuite was released once before but violated the terms of his parole and was sent back to prison.
Corrections officials said that Tuite will be "highly supervised" and will not be paroled to San Diego County.
